Last July 12, 2023, in order to inform national health guilds, we sent a letter describing Innovarte’s work to promote the importance of the negotiations currently taking place at the World Health Organization to reach an international instrument – Pandemic Treaty – that will help the timely and effective response to future global health crises.
In this context, we inform that the WHO has created an Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (#INB), thus opening a new scenario
We are currently in the process of discussing the modification of the International Health Regulations (IHR) to achieve the necessary consensus for a pandemic treaty.
We also share that the “Zero Draft” of the Pandemic Agreement, prepared by the office with the support of the WHO Secretariat, is currently under discussion. After an extensive negotiation process, it is expected to be approved in May 2024 at the 77th World Health Assembly.
The path to reach that goal and the negotiations of the Member States, must guarantee the participation of civil society and the transparency of the processes.
