Today, June 14, 2023, concluded with great success the Seminar “Regulation of Competition and Digital Platforms in Europe and Latin America” organized by Innovarte ONG and the Center for Regulation and Competition of the University of Chile.
The hybrid event based in Santiago, Chile, was attended by the Undersecretary General of Government of Chile, Nicole Cardoch Ramos; the President of the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) of Spain, Cani Fernández Vicién; the Senior Managing Director and Head of Compass Lexecon Europe of Madrid, Jorge Padilla; the Federal Commissioner of Economic Competition of Mexico, Alejandro Faya Rodríguez; Sr. Jaime Barahona, Minister of the Tribunal for the Defense of Free Competition of Chile; Francisca Levin, Head of Mergers Division of the National Economic Prosecutor’s Office of Chile; Thomas Vinje, Vice President, Global Antitrust Practice of Clifford Chance; Michael Jacobs, of Michael Jacobs Law & Consulting and the moderation of Silvia Retamales of FerradaNehme and Francisco Agüero, Director of the Center for Regulation and Competition of the University of Chile.
With more than 150 people virtually connected from Latin America, representatives of competition and telecommunications agencies from Ecuador, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay, Mexico, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Uruguay, Honduras, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and Chile were present.
This activity fostered the discussion around the competition system and its challenges to face the digital world and the digital economy. Exploring Europe’s overview of digital markets and contrasts with Latin America. With case examples and approaches from different jurisdictions to address the challenges posed in these matters, answering questions such as: What have been the most relevant enforcement policies involving digital markets in each agency? or How has each jurisdiction addressed the theories of harm involving large digital technologies and platforms?
